SINTEF AS is Scandinavia's largest independent research organisation and is a non- profit research foundation. SINTEF employs 2000 people most of whom are in Trondheim and Oslo (Norway). More than 90% of company's annual turnover derives from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally, and SINTEF's receive minimal state funding (around 6%). SINTEF is multidisciplinary, with international top-level expertise in a wide range of technological and scientific disciplines, medicine and the social sciences. SINTEF acts as an incubator, commercialising technologies through the establishment of new companies. SINTEF DIGITAL, Connectivity Technologies and Platforms Department that represents SINTEF in this consortium is well known as the foremost applied research institute in Norway in communication technology. The 300 researchers working at SINTEF DIGITAL provide research-based expertise, services and products within areas ranging from micro-technology, through communication and software technology, computational software and information systems to security and safety. Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) technology development and applications are focus areas for SINTEF with research and development in the areas of sensing/actuating intelligent nodes, communications protocols, IoT platforms, enabling technologies for IoT such as cognitive edge devices, edge computing, tactile internet, connectivity/5G, artificial intelligence, deep semantic interoperability, distributed architectures, distributed security, distributed ledger and blockchain technologies.
